Red Dead Redemption 2 players horrified to learn they've accidentally been abusing their horses

Red Dead Redemption 2 players have been mistreating their horses without realising

Many Red Dead Redemption 2 players have been unintentionally mistreating their horses, but don’t worry there’s an easy fix.

The attention to detail Rockstar Games applies to its open world titles is astonishing to say the least, and God knows what it’s cooking up for GTA VI.

However for a game as big as Red Dead Redemption 2, with so many secrets and hidden features to uncover, there’s a good chance a large majority of players won’t have picked up on all of them.

This brings us to a detail about the game’s horses that you might not have known, and no we’re not talking about the testicles that shrivel up in the cold, though that’s also an impressive detail to be fair.

Now we're talking about taking care of your horse, which actually involves more than slapping on a decent saddle and making sure you don’t lead it off a cliff or accidentally shoot it in a chase.

Like any living creature, your horse needs to eat, though one player seemingly wasn’t aware of this as they replied to a Reddit thread by intoner1 and confessed they had no idea the horse was starving itself to death.

User Alex_214465 said they’d never bothered to check the game’s horse panel, and was shocked to discover it said “malnourished.”

Other players were just as shocked as they were, with many also not noticing the horse’s condition outside of its stamina. Turns out NPCs will comment on your horse’s health, so listen out to that while you play.

Fear not though, one player offered an easy fix for the problem as merely resting at a camp for a day or two and allowing your horse to graze should keep it happy and healthy.

Yet another secret Red Dead Redemption 2 feature we’re only just learning, but it’s a good job we did otherwise many will have gone on to mistreat their horse without even realising something was wrong.
