Pokémon TCG Pocket is about to get much bigger.

Upon its release in late 2024, it became an instant success.

Arguably, its streamlined approach to traditional Pokémon TCG made it much more accessible to players who’ve always felt the rules of the game too overwhelming.

However, while it’s been a triumph for The Pokémon Company, the lack of new content has meant that interest has waned somewhat.

Even though we learnt of a major update coming to the game, specifics on when this would be were minimal.

Not tried Pokémon TCG Pocket? You really should

There was mention of trading options being introduced in the new year, but that was the only rough estimation we received.

Looks like we’re about to get that update, and by late January at the latest.

This update will introduce 230 new cards to the game, therefore ensuring you don’t start to lose your enthusiasm when opening those new packets.

News of this expansion hasn’t come directly from The Pokémon Company, but from @PokeGirlLauren on X.

Before you write this off as rumour, this leaker is deemed a reliable source among the Pokémon community.

Granted, this doesn’t mean that their information is never wrong, but it does strengthen any details they share.

A post they shared reads, “The 2nd set 'A2’ will be released 29th January, will contain around 230 cards and is expected to totally change the meta.”

When pressed to answer how this would affect current sets, @PokeGirlLauren couldn’t give a definitive answer one way or another.

They said, “I don't know yet, don't know what they plan to do with existing sets, definitely available until end of Jan.”

We don’t have to wait long until we learn whether this leak is genuine or not.

Given how it seemingly lines up with official update announcements made last year, everything currently points to it be true.

That said, as we know from experience, it’s wise to remain cautious until official details are given.
