Starfield for PS5 has been teased again, if you can believe it. But it might actually make sense this time.
Ever since Xbox started releasing its games on PS5, Bethesda fans have been wondering when Starfield would make the jump over to the Sony platform.
Although it’s had its share of controversies, Starfield fans have generally agreed that the game is much better now than it was at launch, and that it’ll hopefully find a larger audience on PS5.

A new report by MP1st suggests that Bethesda and Microsoft haven’t cancelled the PS5 version of Starfield, and that it’ll actually come to the platform early next year.
MP1st reports: “According to our sources, MP1st was told that Starfield won’t be released in 2025, partly due to the RPG’s weak sales of the first expansion, Shattered Space. Instead, Microsoft is leaning toward releasing the Starfield PS5 version in Spring 2026.”
According to MP1st, this aligns with Bethesda’s plan to release the second paid expansion of the game for all platforms, along with other updates and quality-of-life improvements.
By doing this, PS5 users will hopefully get a smooth launch and decent first impression of the game, rather than being left to wait for more content and bug fixes later down the line.
This report comes just about a week after it was reported that the second expansion for Starfield would not be released in 2025, which adds up. Remember to take all of this with a grain of salt though, as we haven’t had official word from Bethesda on the expansion’s status.
However, Bethesda has teased that future updates to the game are still planned, and that “exciting news” is planned for this year, so it sounds like the game might be in for a big overhaul before its alleged PS5 release.

Considering MP1st reports that Starfield could release on PS5 in “Spring”, which runs from mid-March to the end of May, it’s expected to land right in the middle of GTA 6’s launch period which could interfere with sales.
I imagine most game developers are avoiding May and June to release their games, so as not to have their own sales eaten by the huge behemoth that GTA 6 will be.
We’ll wait for official word from Bethesda as to when we could see Starfield hit the PS5.
