PS5 Hardware Slammed by Nostalgia Kings, What we Had Before Was Better

PlayStation gamers have slammed PS5 hardware, claiming what we had before was much better, and to be honest, I have to agree.

Ever since God of War was released on the PlayStation 2 in 2005, it has become one of Sony’s leading properties and is probably more popular today than it ever was. God of War combined high-octane, hack-and-slash gameplay, gore and a gripping story of revenge.

During the PlayStation 2 to PlayStation 3 days, the critically acclaimed Santa Monica Studio’s series format remained true to its original vision, with its fun and addictive gameplay, as well as fantastic visuals.

However, in 2018, the series had somewhat of a soft reboot. God of War had evolved with an over-the-shoulder perspective, methodical gameplay, a stronger emphasis on narrative and next-level visuals.

We also had a more mature Kratos, who was attempting to live a relatively peaceful life in Scandinavia with his wife and son. Sadly for Kratos, that peace did not last long when trouble literally knocked at his door.

As much as I love the original God of War games, the 2018 release on PlayStation 4 is quite easily one of my favourite games of all time, and I can say the same for its 2022 sequel, God of War Ragnarök.

That being said, when it comes to PlayStation accessories, the old nostalgic God of War knocks it out of the park, at least when it comes to these controllers, and gamers on Reddit agree.

“I was cleaning up and found my old God of War: Ascension DualShock 3, so I put it next to my PS5 DualSense just to compare,” shared Redditor Ranger_Used. “The size and design jump is actually kinda crazy — the DualShock 3 looks tiny now, and the DualSense feels like a whole different species.”

The DualSense controller shown in the image above was announced as a celebration of God of War’s 20th anniversary. This had disappointed many fans who were hoping for a remaster or remake.

“In my opinion, a controller with the runes from the Leviathan Axe and some frost-like imagery on one side would’ve been way better,” suggested Chknstu420.

“Yeah, looking back at this PS3 one, they could have made something a lot better. I don’t think it's ugly, it's just kind of boring,” replied Ranger_Used.

“Themed controller before: detailed, cool print. Themed controller now: red strip,” said SamplePunk. “It's ash colored but not obvious in the picture,” responded pinkpugita.

I own the DualShock 3 controller shown in this Reddit thread, and it’s one of the best limited edition controllers of that generation.

As a huge God of War fan, typically I’d buy the God of War 20th anniversary DualSense, but it’s a bit meh. To be honest, I’ve seen much better controllers designed by third-party artists. But that’s just my opinion.
