PS5 welcomes free new-gen upgrade, no PS Plus needed

An excellent trilogy

PlayStation users are getting a free new-gen upgrade for not one, not two, but three games, and you don’t even need PlayStation Plus to access them.

More and more games are getting new-gen upgrades, giving them higher resolutions, faster framerates and other additional features.

Even the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature upgraded Nintendo Switch games that take advantage of the new hardware.

The latest games to get these upgrades are on PlayStation though; it's none other than the OG S.T.A.L.K.E.R trilogy.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Legends of the Zone Trilogy - Enhanced Edition features three fantastic survival games, including; Shadow of Chornobyl, Clear Sky and Call of Prypiat.

If you haven’t played a S.T.A.L.K.E.R game before, they’re a bit different to your usual open-world survival games, as they’re much grittier and there’s a greater emphasis on actually surviving a harsh environment with different life preservation mechanics.

The upgrades for the games includes visual enhancements, optimisation and even additional mod support, and they're free for all pre-existing trilogy owners.

It’s not just available for PlayStation either, Xbox users can benefit from the upgrade too if you already own the trilogy, so no one is left out.

PC users can also get the enhanced edition of the trilogy, and as an added bonus if they already own the three titles separately, they’ll still get the upgrade for free.

For those who have played these games as well and fancy playing something similar, let me take this chance to recommend Atomfall, which clearly took some inspiration from this trilogy.

It’s available on Xbox Game Pass for Xbox Series X/S and PC but you can get it on PlayStation 5 too.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R games are well worth checking out if you’re up to the challenge, as they’ll push your survival skills to the extremes.
