PlayStation Plus is about to lose a beloved four out of five rated AAA game, with its servers set to close in just a few months.
In this day and age, with such a continued heavy focus on online gaming, while a successful game can garner millions of concurrent players, it can also mean that even the best games face an uncertain future, especially with the never-ending live-service push.
Live-service games such as Concord, Highguard and perhaps now even soon to be Bungie’s Marathon, are a long line of multiplayer-only casualties. Thankfully, at least, it seems that games that have strong single-player modes with optional online multiplayer have a stronger chance of survival in this ever-increasing challenging industry.
Speaking of a single–player game with optional multiplayer is the 2022 racer from Codemasters, GRID Legends.
GRID Legends was added to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in May 2023, alongside the likes of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Dishonored 2 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Sadly, it’s been confirmed that the servers for GRID Legends will be shutting down on 11 September 2026, just over three years after it was added to PS Plus.

“WTF? Seriously p*** off, EA,” exclaimed Reddit user JaySouth84.
“Damn, forgot I had this game. Firing it back up, let's GOOOO,” declared Fit_Butterscotch2386.
“Yeah, might download too, every racing game I've played lately has been open world and I'm over it,” agreed Leweegibo, referring to GRID Legends being a linear racing experience.
Yes and no. While the online multiplayer servers will be shut down for good, which includes the PC and Xbox versions (the Nintendo Switch version had no multiplayer), all the single-player modes, including the story campaign, will still be accessible.
What’s more, whether you’ve purchased GRID Legends outright or added it to your library via PlayStation Plus Essential, it will also still be accessible.
“Beginning September 11, 2026, we have taken the decision to retire online services in GRID Legends for this platform,” reads a statement from EA and Codemasters.
“On this date, cross-platform play, online multiplayer modes, Quick Race, Dynamic Events, leaderboards, and other features that require an online connection will no longer be available to play in GRID Legends.
Players can continue to enjoy the title's dramatic virtual production story and experience thrilling wheel-to-wheel motorsport and edge-of-your-seat action around the globe.”
I suppose if there is one silver lining, it is that GRID Legends has no online multiplayer Trophies or Achievements, so there’ll be no need to panic and acquire them all before 11 September 2026.
