PlayStation gamers losing their minds over surprise PS1 remake

"They dropped this bomb on a random thursday what the hell"

One of the most beloved PS1 games of all time is finally getting a remake, and Sony fans could not be more thrilled due to who is working on the project.

Yesterday, during Konami’s press event, developer Bloober Team announced something we’ve been waiting for since the release of Silent Hill 2 (2024)... they’re finally going back to remake the original Silent Hill.

The announcement was a little bit barebones, so there’s no word on a release date or release platforms, but I think it’s pretty fair to assume we’ll be getting the game on either current-gen or next-gen PlayStation and Xbox systems.

I don’t think it’s particularly brave of me to say that the 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2 was one of the best games of that year, so I’m personally thrilled to hear that developer Bloober Team is coming back to work on the sequel… wait, uh, what’s the opposite of a sequel, but also not a prequel?

Anyway, it seems, based on the comments, the folks over on the r/PS5 subreddit are just as excited as I am.

“Holy f**k I can’t believe this!” commented user DrOz30. “This is my dream remake … now we just need Dino Crisis and the classics will be complete.”

“Oh my god I'm so excited,” replied user CoolDurian4336. “I've been saying Bloober should head a Silent Hill 1 remake since I played SH2R.”

There are, however, a few comments in there that are disappointed Konami didn’t choose to remake Silent Hill 3 next.

I think for the newer fans, doing it this way around does make sense, though (considering you kind of had to have already played the original Silent Hill to understand what’s going on in Silent Hill 3, which isn’t the case for Silent Hill 2).

Either way, I wouldn’t expect to see this one anytime soon. I’d wager that this is a 2027 release at the very earliest, and that’s ok. Take your time and deliver us another banger, Bloober Team.
