Silent Hill 2 remake devs confirm OG game remake

It’s officially confirmed

Konami has announced that the original Silent Hill is the next game in the iconic survival horror series to get the remake treatment.

Developers of the 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake, Bloober Team, will be returning to the helm once more for the game that was originally released on the PlayStation in 1999. The news of the remake was announced during a Konami livestream today.

When the Silent Hill 2 remake was first announced in 2022, it took many fans by surprise as devs skipped the original release.

During that 2022 presentation, it was suggested that the reason why Silent Hill 2 was remade first was due to the upcoming movie, inspired by the second game, Return to Silent Hill, directed by Christophe Gans, which currently has no release date.

In my opinion, the Silent Hill 2 remake was the best game of 2024. It was a remake done right. It offered something familiar for returning fans while adding additional lore and areas to keep new and returning fans on their toes.

In my review of the Silent Hill 2 remake, I said: “Bloober Team has finally realised its potential, and its remake of Silent Hill 2 deserves its place amongst the upper echelon of modern survival horror greats.”

Silent Hill 2 will always be my favourite entry in the series, followed by Silent Hill 3. However, it’s fair to say that this particular remake has been a long time coming.

And no, I’m not counting 2009’s Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, because that was more of a reimagining than a remake.

No release date was announced for the Silent Hill remake, but it might be safe to assume that it could be a couple of years away. It’s also likely to be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

That being said, the PlayStation 5 has seemingly got some kind of timed-exclusive deal, so it will be interesting to see if history repeats itself. We’ll keep you posted when we learn more.

I’d also assume that it will be powered by Unreal Engine 5, as was the Silent Hill 2 remake as well as the upcoming Silent Hill f.

In the meantime, while we wait for the next remake, we can look forward to the release of Silent Hill f which launches for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 25 October 2025.
