Silent Hill fans are heartbroken following the news that a highly anticipated remake is reportedly cancelled all of a sudden.

Later this year, we’re going to be treated to Silent Hill: Townfall, following in the footsteps of Silent Hill f, by not being set in the United States, but instead, the cold and often suitably foggy location of the fictional St. Amelia, in Scotland.

However, before the arrival of Silent Hill: Townfall later this year, fans of Konami’s survival horror series were hoping that we would be getting more of 2024’s Silent Hill 2 remake, namely with the story DLC, ‘Born from a Wish’.

What is Silent Hill 2: Born from a Wish?

‘Born from a Wish’ was first released as a bonus chapter of Silent Hill 2 when it was released on the original Xbox. It allowed players to experience Maria’s story, leading up to the moment when she met James Sunderland at Rosewater Park.

It was a compelling story that added some fantastic background to Maria, and ‘Born from a Wish’ was even seemingly teased in the Silent Hill 2 remake.

When James and Maria walked by the Baldwin Mansion, with Maria stating that the building makes her feel uncomfortable. Without giving too much away, the Baldwin Mansion features in ‘Born from a Wish’ and is tied to the character, Ernest Baldwin.

It Looks Like the Born From a Wish DLC Has Been Cancelled

While nothing has ever been officially confirmed by Konami, rumours were making the rounds that we’ll be treated to the ‘Born from a Wish’ DLC for the Silent Hill 2 remake. After all, it makes all the sense in the world.

Sadly, however, according to an industry insider and leaker of video game information, Dusk Golem, the DLC may have been shelved internally. But, is this rumour as bad as it appears?

Dusk Golem was responding to a follower on Twitter when they asked for an update on the rumoured ‘Born from a Wish’ DLC by replying, “Unfortunately, probably shelved.”

Let’s Share Some Silent Hill Optimism, Shall We?

Ok, I’m probably going to be way too optimistic here, but I want to see the ‘Born from a Wish’ DLC as much as you do.

If we are to take Dusk Golem’s words at face value, the word “shelved” when related to upcoming projects doesn't always mean that it’s been outright cancelled. It sometimes means that a project has been paused while a studio works on something else, and may keep it on the back burner before returning to it.

Of course, it’s worth keeping in mind that the whole existence of the ‘Born from a Wish’ Silent Hill 2 remake DLC is mere hearsay, and so is its “shelved” development. So we should take all rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.

As for the next game in the series that we know for a fact is on the way, Silent Hill: Townfall will be released on 24 September 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, we do also have a remake of the original Silent Hill on the way.
