PlayStation officially revives two PS1 classics we never thought we'd see again

Sony just announced that two beloved PS1 classics are coming to both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 next year, which will doubtlessly come as a surprise to anyone familiar with either of the classic 90s titles.

As revealed in a post on the PlayStation Blog, both Lunar: The Silver Story and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue will drop sometime in “Spring 2025”, wrapped up in a brand new package: the Lunar Remastered Collection.

“From the publishers of Grandia HD Collection and the original creators of Grandia and Grandia II, we’re happy to announce Lunar Remastered Collection…” stated the post, “a compilation of two legendary JRPGs, Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete—now with updated graphics, sound, and new quality-of-life improvements.”

Lunar: The Silver Star was originally released exclusively for the Sega CD back in 1992 to rave reviews, and was eventually re-released and remade as Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete for the Sega Saturn in 1997. This version of the game would later be ported to the original PlayStation in 1998.

Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete also released on the PS1 in the same year, which was also a remake of Lunar: Eternal Blue on the Sega CD.

Even though both original titles, and their respective remakes, received incredible reviews and strong sales (especially in Japan), the franchise hasn’t seen a new release in over a decade - following the release of Lunar: Silver Star Story Touch on the Apple App Store and Google Play in 2012.

Even Sony themselves seem to be aware that this announcement will come as a bit of a surprise, stating that it’s been a “little over 25 years” since the second game “Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete released on the original PlayStation”.

Thankfully the publishers behind this port, GungHo Online Entertainment, are the same ones that brought Lunar: Silver Star Harmony (which is, somehow, the third remake of the original 1992 title) to the PlayStation Portable in 2009, so it seems like Lunar fans are in good hands.
