PlayStation Plus getting 2 PS2 classics we never thought we'd see again

I hope you've got your net ready

PlayStation Plus’ February essential tier line-up may be a tad underwhelming, but it sounds as if this month’s premium offerings could be just the tonic we need.

In case you missed it, three new games have landed on the essential tier for February.

PlayStation Plus subscribers can now download High On Life, Payday 3, and Pac-Man World Re-Pac.

It’s not the worst line-up I’ve ever seen, but I also wouldn’t say it’s exactly filled with a highly anticipated title.

I’ll certainly be giving Pac-Man World Re-Pac a whirl given that I’m a fan of platformers and this one has always passed me by.

If you’re a subscriber to the extra or premium tier, you don’t have much longer to wait to find out what’s in store for you this month.

The line-up is due to be unveiled on Wednesday 12 February, although two premium offerings may have surfaced online ahead of time.

You can take a look at Payday 3 in action below.

This rumour comes from, unfortunately, 4chan of all places so I’m going to need you to take this tidbit with an enormous pinch of salt.

It’s a site where nuggets of truth do occasionally appear, albeit amidst plenty of untruths.

The anonymous user wrote, “According to a journo friend, Ape Escape 2 and Ape Escape 3 are coming to PS Plus Premium.”

They continued, “Ape Escape 2 will be delisted and a new version running on PS2 emulator will be added. Also it seems that more news regarding Ape Escape [is] coming.”

Whether this so-called “journo friend” is in the know or not, I do not know, but what I can say is that the addition of Ape Escape 2 and 3 to PlayStation Plus’ premium catalogue feels like a well-educated guess.

The original Ape Escape is already featured on the platform, so it makes sense that we’d see its sequels follow.

That’s the rollout pattern Sony has followed with plenty of other classic franchises.

I think it’s also fair to say that Astro Bot may have reminded Sony just how popular Ape Escape continues to be with many of us falling head over heels with the game’s Ape Escape-inspired level.

It’s with that in mind that I’m almost certain we’ll see Ape Escape 2 and 3 surface at some point in the near future, even if it’s not this month.

Hopefully, Wednesday will bring us the news we’re hoping for though.
