PlayStation Plus users can not only play this absolute classic, but it’s also been enhanced on modern consoles, making it arguably better than ever.
Back in the 1980s and 1990s, it wasn't all that difficult to find a vibrant video game arcade near your home. Every weekend, I’d visit my local arcade and lose all my pocket money on games such as WWF WrestleFest, Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter, to name a few.
Sadly, today, arcade venues are few and far between, and can often only be found at seaside resorts, and if you’re lucky enough to find one, there’s a chance that it has more gambling machines than it does proper video games.
Thankfully, there are ways to play a plethora of retro classics today, especially if you subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online and/or PlayStation Plus Premium. Sure, it doesn't quite replicate the joy of an arcade machine gobbling up all your coins, but it’s probably the next best thing, at least.
With PlayStation Plus Premium in particular, you can enjoy its Classics Catalogue, which features tons of games from the PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP and PS Vita eras. However, recently, an OG PlayStation classic, and a legend of the arcade, Time Crisis, came to the Premium tier.

In the 1990s, Time Crisis was at the height of the arcade lightgun boom, with the likes of The House of the Dead, Point Blank, Virtua Cop, Area 51 and much more.
Sure, it’s not possible to use a lightgun on modern PlayStation consoles, but that has been countered with the addition of making use of the DualSense controller's gyro motion controls, and PS Plus subscribers are buzzing with its updated release.
“Time Crisis is jaw-dropping,” declared Ordinary_Device_5131. “I grew up playing Time Crisis 2, Time Crisis 3, and later Time Crisis 4 in the arcade.
“I thought going back to the first one, especially on console, would be painful, but it's actually incredible, and the gyro aiming on the controller feels like a groundbreaking feature that's still surprisingly underutilised. We need a lot more lightgun games on the store, including the sequels to this game.”

“Brother, if you think the gyro aiming is impressive, you really need to have a crack at the PS VR2,” recommended Jarrod_saffy.
If there is one snag with this version of Time Crisis, much like most classic games on modern PlayStation consoles, it does not have trophy support.
There are, but as of right now, only the original Time Crisis has gyro controls. PS Plus Premium does include the likes of Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and The Darkside Chronicles. However, these are PS3 games that need to be streamed and can only be played using traditional DualSense controls.
That being said, the two House of the Dead remakes have gyro controls, but neither is included in any of the PlayStation Plus tiers. At least, at the time of writing. Hopefully, they’ll come to Sony’s subscription service one day.
