PlayStation Plus subscribers aren't even bothering to download new free games

Will you be downloading the latest free PlayStation Plus games?

Depending on the tier that you subscribe to, PlayStation Plus offers a wide variety of games to choose from across many genres.

That being said, whether you subscribe to PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra or PS Plus Premium, you can’t always be guaranteed absolute bangers every month and it seems that is the case for some subscribers of the most recent PS Plus November 2023 offerings.

Check out the Aliens: Fireteam Elite trailer below!

On 1 November, Sony announced the titles included in this month's PS Plus Essential tier and let’s just say that it wasn't overwhelmingly positive. So what’s the issue with the games included in PlayStation Plus Essential this month? Well, to put it bluntly, they’re a bit, meh. Albeit, what video games you may or may not like is totally subjective to the individual.

Included in the latest lineup is Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Dragon Ball: The Breakers and finally, Mafia II: Definitive Edition. For starters, Aliens: Fireteam Elite is an average three-play co-op shooter based on the movie franchise set roughly two decades after Alien 3. On Metacritic, Aliens: Fireteam Elite scored a decent 67. Sure it’s not poor, but it's not great either.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers is an asymmetrical multiplayer game, which isn't the problem. The problem seems to be that judging by its fanbase, it’s a poorly executed asymmetrical game trying to cash in on the Dead by Daylight hype. Dragon Ball: The Breakers earned a score of just 54 on Metacritic on PS4.

As for Mafia II: Definitive Edition, this is a remaster of the original game that was released in 2010. Unfortunately, this is a remaster of minimal effort that was plagued with bugs at launch. This is a shame because I quite liked this game when it was released 13 years ago. In case you’re wondering, Mafia II: Definitive Edition scored 56 on Metacritic for PS4.

It seems that PS Plus subscribers are so underwhelmed with the games offered this month, that some aren’t even bothering to download the new free games. At least according to some on a Reddit forum.

“I will add to the library but I will not download any of them!” exclaimed MatsGry. “They can keep Them all!” said Just_Statistician556. “Aliens: Elite Fireteam is decent. I don’t think I’m even going to add the others to my library,” replied Sparescrewdriver. “Two of the three are online multiplayer? You can't win 'em all, I guess…” said a downbeat RxBrad.

At the end of the day, if you fancy trying any of these games, then give them a go, because you might be pleasantly surprised. Hopefully Mafia II: Definitive Edition is in a better state now and perhaps Aliens: Fireteam Elite will be fun playing with friends, especially if you’re a fan of the movie franchise.
