Two rare games from the original PlayStation are finally seeing a wide release next week on PS4 and PS5.

One of the beautiful things about PlayStation Plus is it allows old and forgotten games to reach a new audience.

With classic PlayStation games like Twisted Metal and Rogue Galaxy available on the service, it gives subscribers a chance to check out games that might have come from before their time.

And sometimes, it even allows games that weren’t released in certain regions to receive a worldwide release.

This is the case with Armored Core: Project Phantasma and Armored Core: Master of Arena, two early games from iconic Soulsborne developer FromSoftware.

Part of the wider mech shooter series Armored Core, these two classics were exclusive to North America and Japan, and were never released in Europe.

Both games act as prequels to the original Armored Core, and build upon the gameplay with new weapons for you to use. There’s also an optional Arena mode which pits you against various enemies that get increasingly more difficult.

Next week, however, Sony will bring Project Phantasma and Master of Arena to PlayStation Plus Premium. It’ll be the first time these games are made legally available to play in Europe.

Project Phantasma and Master of Arena will join the service alongside the original Armored Core, meaning you will soon be able to play the original trilogy in all its mecha glory.

This is great news for Armored Core fans, particularly those in Europe, who have struggled to find the older games on modern platforms.

The original Armored Core was made available on PS3 but only in Japan and North America, while the two prequels could only be found on the Japanese PS3 store. This will be the first time all three games are made concurrently available across the three regions.

For those who don’t subscribe to PlayStation Plus Premium, it’s also likely Sony will make these games available for purchase individually from the PlayStation Store.

Armored Core, Project Phantasma and Master of Arena will hit PlayStation Plus on 18th March.
