PlayStation Plus price changes leave fans baffled

There's a clever explanation

If you’re looking to take out a new PlayStation Plus subscription, now may be the perfect time to do so.

A new offer has rolled out offering prospective subscribers a major discount on both extra and premium tier memberships.

The only caveat, and this is perhaps to be expected from Sony at this point, is that it applies to new and returning subscribers only.

If you already have a subscription, you won’t be able to extend it at the discounted rate.

It’s a shame that that’s the case, but it fits with what we know of Sony. Renewal deals are pretty hard to come by.

As I mentioned though, for those who are eligible, these discounts are nothing to turn your nose up at.

In the US, users can nab 37% off a premium tier subscription, and 25% off an extra tier subscription.

In Europe, it’s 34% off a premium subscription, and 20% off an extra tier subscription.

God of War Ragnarök is now available on PlayStation Plus’ extra tier.

The strange thing is that this discount has seemingly brought both tiers down to the same price, somewhat baffling users.

In the EU, for example, a 34% discount brings a premium subscription down to €99.99, with the 20% discount bringing the price of an extra subscription down to €99.99 as well.

As such, users are wondering why the extra tier wasn’t discounted at the same rate as it would then appear to be a much better deal.

Well, there’s likely a very good reason for this.

If premium and extra are the same price, you’re likely going to opt for premium as you’ll get more bang for your buck.

I’m imagining that Sony is hoping that you won’t adjust or cancel your subscription when that first year ends, leading to a pricier renewal cost.

That’s definitely something to keep in mind if you take advantage of this offer but it shouldn’t put you off. This is still a decent deal.

I would recommend you check the deal in your local territory for exact pricing and remember, this one’s for returning or new customers only.
