PlayStation Plus new free game is an easy 9/10 you can't miss

Perfect for Life is Strange fans

PlayStation Plus users can now enjoy February’s extra and premium tier offerings, and it’s an incredible line-up.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is arguably the month’s headliner, as I’m imagining it’s on quite a few people’s to-play list.

There’s another game though that I’d like to place in the spotlight; Lost Records: Bloom & Rage has launched on the extra tier as a day one release.

If you’re unfamiliar with Lost Records, it’s an episodic adventure game from Don’t Nod, the creator of the original Life is Strange.

Life is Strange is, of course, now handled by Deck Nine, so Lost Records is Don’t Nod’s own spiritual successor.

As I said in my review, the game doesn’t simply scratch a similar itch. It’s arguably superior to Life is Strange in every way.

Watch the trailer for Lost Records: Bloom & Rage below.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage spans two time periods.

The summer of ‘95 is one of self-discovery for newfound friends Swann, Autumn, Nora, and Kat.

27 years later, the group is drawn back together after vowing to never speak to one another again after a long-buried secret resurfaces.

In my review of the game, I awarded it a score of nine, writing, “Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is the modern evolution of the episodic adventure game format that I have been waiting for. If you fell in love with Life is Strange a decade ago, what you’ll find here won’t simply scratch the same itch.”

“This spiritual successor is an upgrade in every sense; boasting an intriguing story, a visually sumptuous world, and most importantly, an integral sense of player agency that so often gets lost in what is typically a fairly passive genre of gaming. Don’t Nod has really struck gold with this formula.”

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is, as I mentioned, episodic. Tape one, Bloom, is what’s available to play now with the second and final tape, Rage, due to launch on 15 April.

It’s with that in mind that I heartily recommend you jump into Bloom as soon as possible. Look, I need people to start theorising online about what might happen next.

It’s Yellowjackets meets Stranger Things, with a dashing of I Know What You Did Last Summer, infused with a Riot grrrl attitude.

If you want to own the title permanently, there’s also a 10% exclusive discount for PlayStation Plus members available until 4 March.
