PlayStation Plus Gets New Free Download That Will Consume or Enrage You

This one might hit a little too close to home for some of you...

If you’re a fan of being made fun of, getting frustrated, and throwing your controller at the wall, you may want to seek out professional therapeutic advice. Failing that, however, you could instead play the latest addition to PlayStation Plus.

I’m not usually a fan of the frequently dubbed genre of “rage” games. You know the sort, stuff like Jump King, Only Up!, A Difficult Game About Climbing, and, coincidentally, Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy.

Basically, I’m referring to the type of hair-pulling nonsense that the likes of Northernlion loves to play. Games that actively want to upset you, often because they result in punishingly savage losses of progress.

However, I did find myself oddly enthralled by the latest entry in the genre– and one that just so happened to make its way to PlayStation Plus Premium earlier this month via. free trial (as spotted by PlayStation Lifestyle’s Zarmena Khan).

Baby Steps is a game about a fella called Nate. Nate is a man-child who lives in his parents' basement, spends all of his free time watching anime, and has never felt the touch of a woman.

The game was developed by a small team of three people: Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and Bennett Foddy. You might recognise some of those names, especially the last one (if you scroll up a few paragraphs).

It was published by Devolver Digital back in September on Steam and PlayStation 5 to relatively decent reviews. Don’t let that fool you into thinking you’ll enjoy it, however, because Baby Steps is brutally punishing. Take it from someone who has actually played it; it’s not for those of you with short tempers.

It is, however, genuinely quite funny. I think one of the reasons I haven’t vibed with other games in the genre is because they lack what Baby Steps has: a story.

Plus, Nate is such an unlikeable little prick that I often sort of enjoyed failing certain segments and seeing his stupid little onesie-wearing frame bounce off of several, sharp-looking rocks as he plummeted down a cliffside.

Be warned that the game is available to play through PS Plus Premium as a trial, so you likely won’t be able to complete Baby Steps in the time allotted.

However, for a game like this, I think this is one of the few instances where a PS Plus trial is the way to go. A lot of you will absolutely love this game, whereas others are going to immediately install it after the first time they fail a lengthy platforming section.
