PlayStation Plus Free Open-World RPG Is A ‘Must Play’ Ahead Of Sequel

It’s highly recommended

PlayStation gamers have recommended an open-world RPG as a must-play if you subscribe to PS Plus, ahead of a highly anticipated sequel.

There are tons of fantastic games on PlayStation Plus, whether it’s first-party bangers such as God of War, AAA big hitters like Final Fantasy VII Remake or one of the many indie darlings available on the service.

Depending on the tier, you also get loads of bonus perks, such as free DLC, discounts, a selection of movies, cloud streaming and much more. However, there’s one game in particular that comes highly recommended by subscribers.

The open-world game in question, which has some RPG elements such as its character and weapon levelling up system, is 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima, developed by Sucker Punch Productions.

Ghost of Tsushima is hands-down one of my favourite games in recent years, and I can’t wait for its sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, set roughly 300 years later, which arrives in just a couple of short weeks.

“As the island burns in the wake of the first wave of the Mongol assault, courageous samurai warrior Jin Sakai stands resolute,” reads the synopsis of the game. “As one of the last surviving members of his clan, Jin is resolved to do whatever it takes, at any cost, to protect his people and reclaim his home.”

Set during the 13th century, feudal Japan, Ghost of Tsushima has superb samurai combat, a compelling story and missions that will have you questioning your choices, and its open-world is gorgeous, full of fun side activities.

With that in mind, Reddit user Kody-Blu asked, “I just got PS Plus Extra… where do I start? So many good games.”

“Ghost of Tsushima is one of the best games I've gotten from PS Plus. I’m currently playing it and haven't wanted to stop. It's amazing. I’m looking forward to Ghost of Yōtei coming out,” explained SunflowerSpinach.

“Ghost of Tsushima. I went into that game knowing nothing. I only knew it was set in Japan and is about samurai,” declared 9Sylvan5. “Come to think of it, I don't even know what got me to try it in the first place. Anyway, it's a banger. Great story, incredibly fun and beautiful.”

“Ghost of Tsushima is amazing!” exclaimed CreepyTurnover415.

Ghost of Tsushima is out now on PC and PlayStation. Its sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, releases for PlayStation 5 on 2 October 2025.
