Xbox isn’t the only brand looking to branch out – PlayStation is also exploring new avenues.

Although PlayStation offers services like PS Plus, it comes with a price tag not everyone wants to pay.

Consequently, it leaves more budget conscious gamers without many options. Occasionally a free download comes along, but those opportunities are few and far between.

Make sure to watch the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree story trailer before you go.

It seems this is a problem Sony is looking to address.

TweakTown spotted a job advertisement for a “mobile platform architect” for yet to launch “free-to-play mobile games”.

The job listing reads, “PlayStation Studios Mobile is seeking an experienced software engineer to design PlayStation’s platform for developing, publishing, and operating free-to-play mobile games.”

“An individual in this role will spearhead the design and implementation of this platform; work in partnership with internal teams to connect mobile games to PlayStation services; and ensure that all mobile games meet PlayStation’s quality standards,” it continues.

Despite this being a new area of gaming for PlayStation to properly explore, not all its fans are sold on the idea.

Twitter user @oOStep_Oo said, “Interesting, but bringing quality paid games on mobile would be cool like the RE, AC, and other indies recently; mobile needs more quality stuff not cheap runner or match three clones!”

A more pessimistic, and dare we say unimpressed, user replied, “DOA. They don't follow through on anything, they start more failing tech.”

Whoever takes on this role won’t just need eight years of experience (as the listing states), but also a thick skin when dealing with the PlayStation community.

Apart from what we can glean from the job advertisement, what this new platform will involve, and the kind of games we’ll have access to, remains unknown.

The mobile games section of the industry is indeed growing, but whether Sony can find its place there is up for debate.
