PlayStation's new console sells out immediately, scalpers strike instantly

Here we go again.

The first two years of the PS5’s life were nightmarish for anyone who didn’t happen to get immediately lucky at launch. Sony’s new-gen consoles were like gold dust, and scalpers made sure that we knew it.

Although the global semiconductor shortage played a huge role in the shortage of PS5 consoles, scalpers were also a big part of the problem. Even if you had stock alerts on at every major retailer and joined the online queues immediately, there were no guarantees that someone hadn't already slid in ahead of you and bought out the entire stock. Many gamers were forced to go either months without getting a console at all, or they could succumb to the scalpers and pay a heavily inflated price. Not fun.

Later this year, PS5 owners can get ready to dive into Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 - take a look at the trailer below.

Thankfully, it was announced at the start of this year by the president and CEO of PlayStation, Jim Ryan, that gamers “should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward”, and that’s held true. So much so, in fact, that we’ve seen some incredible deals on the console popping up lately that would have felt like a dream 12 months ago. However, the same can’t be said for the new, limited-edition Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 console bundle that became available to order earlier this month. As Game Rant reports, it quickly sold out at multiple retailers, as did the limited-edition console covers, which allow users to get the same slick Spidey-themed design without needing to buy a whole new console.

At the time of writing, it appears that the console bundle is back in stock in multiple places online now, but the console covers are still highly sought after - although they were supposed to cost around £55, looking on eBay, many are selling them for well over £100, instead. Ouch.
