PlayStation's new console has an outrageous price tag

PlayStation's new Marvel's Spider-Man 2 themed console has an outrageous price tag.

We feared it would be the case, but now we have confirmation. Sony’s new Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 themed PlayStation 5 console boasts a very hefty price tag.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is undoubtedly the most highly anticipated first-party PlayStation release of the year. Admittedly, we have very little idea about what’s coming beyond that. I sure hope those rumours of another PlayStation Showcase are true. In the meantime though, Peter Parker and Miles Morales will swing back onto our consoles on 20 October. The game’s map is said to be twice as large as that in the original game, plus we'll get to explore several of New York's boroughs that we’ve never been to before. Players can switch between Miles and Peter during free-roam, although main missions are fixed. At last weekend’s San Diego Comic Con, it was announced that a Spidey themed PS5 is also on the way - and now we know just how much it’ll cost.

Take a look at the latest trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 below.

Reliable leaker billbil-kun (via Dealabs) has revealed pricing for the console, and it’ll cost you a fair bit. The console bundle will reportedly go on sale for $599.99 / €659.99. That bundle will include a PS5 console with the Spidey faceplates, plus the controller and a digital copy of the game. Other recent console and game bundles have cost in the region of $530 to $560, so this marks yet another price rise from Sony.

If you were hoping to just nab the controller, it’ll reportedly cost $79.99 / €79.99, while the faceplates will cost $64.99 / €64.99. Earlier this year, Sony released the Hogwarts Legacy controller at the same price point, so this remains steady. The cost of the faceplates is on par with the cost of the recently announced LeBron James versions too. Still, it’s a steep cost for collector’s looking to nab the whole collection.

Remember too that the console bundle only comes with a digital version of the game, not a physical copy. We expect that these prices will be confirmed by Sony soon. Pre-orders go live for the console and accessories on 28 July.
