It appears that PlayStation’s apparent move to embrace multiplatform releases has ruffled some feathers, with some fans threatening to move to PC.
Last week we reported on a job listing from Sony Interactive Entertainment that showed the publisher is looking to expand its titles across other platforms, namely Steam, Epic, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile.
The new job listing follows the announcement earlier this month that PlayStation would be publishing Helldivers 2 on Xbox Series X/S. A move which has seemed to be a little controversial with some PlayStation fans.
I mean, we had these conversations back in 2021 when PS4 and PS5 games started coming to PC, and it appears we’re having it again.

“I have always preferred PlayStation consoles because in my opinion they offer the best exclusives, they are one of the main attractions of PlayStation in general," writes a fan on Reddit.
“If PlayStation exclusive games like Spider-Man 2, The Last Of Us, God Of War or Gran Turismo start coming out on other consoles like Xbox, then PlayStation consoles really lose their main attraction for me.
“If the reason I bought a PlayStation console starts coming out on other consoles then why I bought a PlayStation and not a Xbox or Nintendo?
“This job offer is not a rumor, it is a reality and if it ends up being like that, PlayStation consoles have lost their main attraction for me, I would go to PC.”

PlayStation fans in the comments don’t seem to share OP’s opinion though, arguing that this is a good thing for video games.
“Being games cost so much money to make, limiting your audience while expecting good results is a fool's errand,” wrote one fan in the replies. “You're just kneecapping your return on investment if you're not going to be multiplatform.”
“You’re not thinking about this the right way at all,” reads another reply. “Now you can play the games you want on whatever device you want.”
“They already started this process years ago,” a third reply reads. “They will probably just have their older games on other platforms. My guess is their new games will remain exclusive to the PlayStation platform for at least 2-3 years before going multiplat.”

I’m still sceptical we’ll see Bloodborne on Steam any time soon, but it’s good to see that console war arguments are slowly becoming a thing of the past.
Following the release of Helldivers 2 on Xbox, it’ll be interesting to see what game Sony targets next for a multiplatform release. Whether that’s more live service titles, or it dips into its large library of singleplayer games, remains to be seen.
