PlayStation has too many top-tier franchises that haven't been touched in years, fans agree

These franchises need to make a comeback

If there’s one thing this generation of consoles will be known for, it’s the remakes, reboots, and remasters of older franchises. That’s not a bad thing, however, it would be nice for some companies - we’re looking at you Sony - to browse through their back catalogue and bring us some of those old top-tier games.

Sony could do with taking a look backwards and revisit some of the titles that made them a household name, and that’s the topic of this Reddit thread. As someone who grew up on PlayStation, there are loads of games I’d put forward and many of them appear in this discussion.

Oh, to give all these older games the Ratchet and Clank treatment

The top reply has my heart, “Sly Cooper was left on such a cliffhanger too, really wish they’d revisit that ending and make a new game.” We’ve had so many 3D platformers but poor old Sly sits on the shelf, primed for a stellar comeback. Of course, Redditors are throwing all kinds of names in the ring with Warhawk and Motorstorm topping the replies, but one that keeps popping up is Jak and Daxter. “If Sony made a new Jak and Daxter game, I'd buy a PS5 the same day.” says one reply - it would be great to see Jak and Daxter get the same treatment as Ratchet and Clank.

Killzone and Ape Escape are both mentioned and are both titles that could excel in this generation. One is a great shooter, and the other is a superb arcade title that the PS5 seems to be lacking. But, if we’re talking shooters then we have to add Resistance into the conversation also.

If there’s one thing this discussion has highlighted, it’s that Sony took more risks in the PS3 era and we saw a lot of original IPs make their mark. Sadly, nowadays, it’s unlikely we’ll see these games again unless there’s a huge demand, games just cost too much to make and many of these mentions could flop on re-release.
