It looks like the release year of the PS6 may have been recently leaked, and it still feels too soon to me.

Back in April, Supermassive Games had reportedly cancelled an unannounced Blade Runner game that was in development at the studio.

According to Insider Gaming, it was allegedly titled Blade Runner: Time To Live, and would have been a “character focused, cinematic, action adventure”.

It apparently entered production in late 2024, with the core team from The Quarry working on it, with a potential September 2027 release.

What’s interesting from the report is that Blade Runner: Time To Live was targeting PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, as well as “Gen 10” Xbox and PlayStation systems.

With the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles comprising the ninth generation of video game consoles, the “Gen 10” comment is almost certainly referring to the PS6 and whatever the next Xbox will be called.

This means that Sony could allegedly be targeting 2027 as the release year for the PS6, which still feels a little soon.

I mean, yes, the PS5 will be five years old by the end of the year. But I don’t think it’s starting to feel dated at all, and it probably won’t be in two years’ time either.

Next year we have GTA 6 coming out, and it looks like it’ll be pushing the PS5 to its limits.

If my current-gen console can achieve those visuals without any performance hits, I don’t think I’ll need a PS6 for a while.

When you also consider The Witcher 4 is targeting 60FPS on a PS5 while also looking like that, I don’t think many of us will be in any rush to upgrade by 2027.

Perhaps we’re reaching a point where video game consoles start to be more like phone upgrades, where new consoles don’t necessarily feature huge generational leaps but rather just have more powerful hardware inside them.

Either way, just know that even PlayStation itself is planning for the PS5 to live for a long time, even way past the PS6 release date.

So you should be fine sticking with your current system for a while.
