Yesterday saw us receive some brand-new information about the PlayStation 6 but its reported release date has got Grand Theft Auto VI fans feeling worried.

Dropping on Youtube just yesterday, AMD shared the video ‘From Project Amethyst to the Future of Play’ which showcased PS5’s lead architect at Sony, Mark Cerny in conversation with senior vice president and general manager at AMD, Jack Huynh.

The pair spoke about the upcoming hardware goals for the PlayStation 6 and you do not need to be a technological genius to understand that the next-gen PlayStation console is shaping up to be the most powerful yet courtesy of never-before-seen technology.

However, it was the news that came after this video which has received even more attention.

Courtesy of well-known hardware insider Kepler2, we can expect the PlayStation 6 to launch in 2027.

In reply to one user on gaming forum NeoGAF saying, “That's just semantics, I literally saw people say the exact opposite. 2027 is on the table”, they replied, “Not just on the table, it's the plan unless any unexpected delays happen.”

Of course, it is worth taking this news with a pinch of salt until otherwise confirmed by Sony itself but with Kepler2 having some accurate predictions when it comes to all things AMD, there could be some truth in it.

So what does this mean for us?

Well, it will mean that the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro’s reign is finally over which many fans are already saying is too soon.

After all, the PlayStation 5 had to battle with the COVID-19 pandemic and stock shortages at the start of its lifespan and on top of that, it still has hardly any exclusive titles to boast about.

It could also spell bad news for the most anticipated game of all time: Grand Theft Auto VI.

Although Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to launch on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 26 May 2026, a 2027 PlayStation 6 launch could see Rockstar push its luck by bringing out a patch or remastered version of the game for the next-gen console.

That is what one user over on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours is worried about.

“Patch? They'll release a PS6 version and get that double dip,” user ZypherPunk replied in response to somebody guessing that there will be a PS6 patch for GTA VI.

SirFadaker agreed, adding, “Saying "buy it again" as if it'll be the same thing is a little disingenuous.

They're obviously going to give us an extended cut that adds first-person view and more ways to buy shark cards.”

Of course, both the PS6 release date and Rockstar’s plans for Grand Theft Auto VI on next-gen consoles is still yet to be confirmed.

However, it is safe to say that our time with the PS5 is almost up.
