Rumours surrounding the PlayStation 6 continue to run rampant as many fans worry that it is just too soon to move on from the current-gen of Sony consoles.

Over recent months, various leaks have revealed that the PlayStation 6 could arrive as early as 2026 with others claiming it won’t be until at least 2028.

However, with Sony unwilling to confirm nor deny, it seems as though PlayStation users will have to make do with the influx of rumours and leaks.

That includes a recent report from Detective Seeds over on Twitter who believes that the PlayStation 6 will not launch until 2029.

“The PS5 Pro 2026 update is going to carry the PS hardware gen to the PS6 2029 release window,” they claimed in a recent Twitter thread.

The “PS5 Pro 2026 update” refers to a substantial visual and performance enhancing boost for the PlayStation 5 that is expected to be released later this year.

This news comes courtesy of PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny who revealed that Sony is working on implementing the FSR 4 for the PlayStation 5 Pro which will drastically improve graphics and upscaling alongside performance boosts.

If true, this will offer greater results than the current PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology.

Not only that but, if Detective Seeds’ report is to be believed, it will push the PS5 Pro all the way to 2029.

“PS4 owners will be incentivized to upgrade to the PS5 Pro next year, and games will be rolling out more updates and patches increasing how well they look and play on the Pro,” Detective Seeds continued.

“This is what is allowing them to wait and release the PS6 in 2029 like I said a few months ago.”

He acknowledges that although some people believe the PS6 may launch in the holiday season of 2028, “the engineering team are targeting 2029 as the release to maximize the advancements they are making with the partnerships with AMD.”

As always, it is worth taking this report with a pinch of salt but it does make sense based on the improved technology that Sony seemingly wishes to work with.

If true, it will give us a lot more time with our PlayStation 5s and hopefully this will lead to a lot more exclusives.
