A new PlayStation 6 leak has suggested that the machine will be three times faster than the PlayStation 5, and fans are baffled.
Alright, strap in, folks, because we gotta get technical to explain this one.
According to a report in a new video by Moore's Law Is Dead, at least one element of the PS6 will be three times faster than the base model PlayStation 5.
Now, Moore’s Law Is Dead’s credibility, as far as leaks go, is less than stellar these days, but the basis of this one is a little bit more concrete.

As MLID revealed in their video, this information is based on a leaked AMD presentation from 2023, in which they proposed exactly what kind of specs they could offer Sony for their next home console.
AMD and Sony have already revealed that they’ll be partnering up again for the PS6’s chipset, so there is a pretty good chance that the leaked specs in the presentation are real (although MLID does note that AMD’s proposal could have changed at some point in the last two years).
The “three times faster” bit of the leak is specifically in regard to the PS6’s rasterisation (when compared to the base model PS5). This is due to the AMD-manufactured GPU that the PS6 will supposedly feature, which Gamesradar’s Phil Hayton compares to the RTX 4080 graphics card.
In this case, that means that the PS6 will be capable of producing ray tracing effects at three times the speed of the PS5. If you want a more technical explanation of what exactly that means, I highly suggest checking out this write-up of all the details over on ResetEra.

Personally, I am inclined to believe this leak. The fact that KelperL2, who is quite possibly the most trustworthy source on PlayStation tech leaks, retweeted MLID’s report implies to me that the AMD presentation featured in the leak is real.
Still feels a little too early to be talking about the next generation of consoles to me, though, so hopefully the PS6 isn’t as close to being released as this leak might imply.
