Despite finally offering us a soulslike game with a female protagonist, one recent action RPG has made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

As a result, Sony and Steam will be offering an epic free download by way of apology.

Released earlier this month, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is the latest soulslike on the market with this one following the story of Bai Wuchang, a female pirate who must navigate the horrors of the mysterious Feathering Disease.

Developed by Leenzee, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers had high hopes from potential fans but due to its less-than-smooth launch, the soulslike is still trying to pick up the pieces.

With reports of botched pre-order rewards and performance issues on the PlayStation 5, the team is finding a way to compensate fans by offering free downloadable content.

As a way to “make amends” according to developer Leenzee, the free DLC will feature the following:

  • Steam Deluxe Edition : in addition to the single costume as compensation, there will be 3 extra sets of Deluxe costumes + 4 weapons.
  • Standard and Deluxe Editions holders will additionally obtain 3 headgear items across all platforms.

The same will also be provided to those who own Wuchang: Fallen Feathers on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro.

“As a token of appreciation for your early support and to make amends for our oversight, we will provide additional compensation to all Deluxe Edition owners,” Leenzee shared over on Steam.

Not only that but its team plans to address the performance issues with a series of upcoming patches so if Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is currently unplayable for you, keep an eye out for future updates.

As for our thoughts on this new soulslike, our very own Dan Lipscombe claimed that it still offers something new to the genre.

“While I don’t think Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is going to become the sudden favourite of soulslike fans, I can see it getting plenty of time in the sun,” his review reads.

“The issues I felt are, in the grand scheme of things, relatively minor and can all be worked around, or even patched out by the developers. Which leaves me with an utterly engaging world, filled with sheer beauty, and plenty of fresh ideas.”
