Now could be a great time to pick up a new PlayStation 5, thanks to a huge price drop, but the offer won’t last forever.
PlayStation 5s do not come cheap, we all know that, and the same can be said for the Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2. So, when a tidy price drop comes along during a time when we’re thinking of making a new purchase, it might be an ideal time to take the plunge.
Like many, I have the launch version of the PlayStation 5, which does a great job, so much so that I’ve felt no need to pick up a Pro or slim model. That was until recently.
Especially when it comes to new, major AAA games that push my PlayStation 5 to its limit, I’ve noticed that my console gets very warm (moreso than usual) and once in a blue moon, the console has suddenly shuts itself down as a result. It’s probably going to die sometime soon.

This is coming from someone who looks after my PlayStation 5 console. It’s in a spot where it gets good ventilation, and I give the insides of the machine a good spring clean every few months or so. But sadly, it will get to a point when my maintenance isn't enough.
So, with that being said, if for any reason, you’re thinking of picking up a new PlayStation 5 slim, now could be the perfect time. On the PlayStation Direct website, you can make a saving of up to £90, but the offer ends on 1 October 2025.

The PlayStation 5 slim with a disc drive and two DualSense controllers has dropped from £529.99 to £484.99 (-£45), and a console with one controller has dropped from £479.99 to £434.99 (-£45).
The PlayStation 5 slim digital version with two DualSense controllers has dropped from £479.99 to £389.99 (-£90), and a console with one controller has dropped from £429.99 to £339.99 (-£90).
The bundles that come with two DualSense controllers could be particularly helpful, because you can use one straight out of the box and put the other aside should you encounter the dreaded analogue stick drift.
There’s even a price drop of a PlayStation 5 slim with a disc drive that comes bundled with a 24-month PlayStation Plus Premium subscription that was £679.99 and has dropped to £634.99, which is a saving of £45.

Sadly, there is currently no discount on PlayStation Direct for a PS5 Pro, but I’m sure those offers will arrive the closer we get to Christmas.
