Have you ever heard the saying that something is “too good to be true”? That is often how I feel when I see that a large-scale RPG is absolutely free to play.

What is the catch? Does this mean that it is so terrible that nobody in their right mind would spend money on it? These are just some of the questions that I ask myself.

However, when it comes to one 2025 RPG, I can assure you that you are not being tricked.

The game in question is Wuthering Waves, a free-to-play open-world RPG “with a high degree of freedom”.

As you awake from your slumber, you will take on the role of Rover who must team-up with an eclectic cast of characters known as Resonators as you embark on a journey to reclaim your lost memories and change the world.

Developed by KURO GAMES, Wuthering Waves originated as a PC and mobile game back in 2024 before eventually launching on the PlayStation 5, Mac and Steam in March 2025.

Since then, it has bagged itself a nomination for the best 2025 Mobile Game Award and now the team behind the hit gacha title is gearing up to release its major 3.0 update. Launching tomorrow, 25 December, Chapter 3 will begin.

Heaps of Free Content Arrive Tomorrow

Titled ‘Dawnbreaker’, the new content will bring the next major update to the Wuthering Waves’ story which aims to bring “a blend of mechanical science fiction and space romance”.

Additionally, players will get to experience a new exploration method and a whole new map.

As the brand-new chapter unfolds, players will be able to meet and recruit brand-new Resonators called Lynae and Mornye, explore a new region known as Lahai-Roi and even get their hands on the Expedition Motorbike to travel across the open-world maps even faster.

Wuthering Waves Chapter 3 will also include new log-in events, weapons, Echoes, Phantom Echoes, Sonata Effects, a new high difficulty recurring challenge, and a new permanent event which you can take part in to grab yourself some of that all important currency.

Wuthering Waves 3.0 arrives on Christmas Day and will be automatically downloaded for free across all platforms.

Additionally, the base game is free to play on PC, iOS, Android, and PlayStation 5 with in-game monetisations available by choice.

So if you have no Christmas Day plans, spend your day with this free open-world RPG extravaganza.
