PlayStation 5 gamers surprised with free download for a game you'll lose hours to

Shovel Knight Dig is finally heading to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

If you’re yet to jump into Shovel Knight Dig then you might want to consider yourself as somewhat lucky.

Developed by Yacht Club Games, Shovel Knight Dig is one of those games that once it’s sunk its claws into you, you’ll find it oh so very hard to put it down.

This roguelite platformer hopped on the scene back in 2022, launching on Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile.

A prequel to the original Shovel Knight, this second instalment sees players control the titular protagonist as they fight off foes and attempt to recover Shovel Knight's stolen treasure bag.

The game garnered a very respectable score of 81 over on Metacritic, so don’t just take my word for it when I say the game is good.

Rather excitingly, Shovel Dig Knight will soon become playable for even more people as it’s set to launch on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

ICYMI: Astro Bot is set to land on PlayStation 5 on 6 September.

These two ports don’t have a launch date just yet, nor do we have pricing confirmed but you should expect the game to set you back around £20 based on the Switch and Steam versions.

If you do choose to purchase the game, Yacht Club Games has unveiled that alongside the launch of the ports, the studio will be releasing a massive new free expansion titled Wicked Wishes.

Wicked Wishes will be available across all platforms later this summer and, as I said, it’ll be totally free.

This is set to be the game’s final big free update.

“The new downloadable content begins in Hoofman’s Guild Hall - a secret hideout where elite quest-seekers and their illustrious patrons converge,” begins the update's description.

“Climb the ranks within the guild by undertaking their thrilling challenges. Collect powerful Relics and buffs, face new bosses and enemies, and unravel the mysteries encircling the impeccably dressed horse and his top adventurer, the Guildarch. But be careful what you wish for, wicked consequences await you in the well.”

That’s captured my attention.

Alongside the new content, the update also includes over 100 bug fixes, tweaks, and localisation improvements.

We’ll keep an eye out for that coveted release date.
