One of the best games on PlayStation 2 is set to get an unexpected release this generation, and I’m all for it.
There have been some amazing fighting games over the years, whether we play them on PC, consoles or in the good old arcades. From the likes of
Tekken, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat have all provided us with so many fond memories to last a lifetime.
One other fighting franchise that has provided a lifetime of joyful memories is Soulcalibur, which originally began its life known as Soul Edge in 1996, and was released on the original PlayStation and arcade.

Since that time, we’ve had multiple sequels and spin-offs in the Soulcalibur series published by Bandai Namco. However, it’s been a while since the last game was released, that being Soulcalibur VI in 2018.
Fans of the series might be hard-pressed to pick out a single favourite entry, with each Soulcalibur knocking it out of the park. Yet, one game that might not get as many mentions as others is 2005’s Soulcalibur III.
That’s not because Soulcalibur III isn't a great game, because it most certainly is. The problem with it is that it was only ever released on PlayStation 2 and arcade, whereas most other entries in the series were multiplatform. So its fan reach may not have been as wide as others.
Not only is Soulcalibur III still a fantastic game to play with its fluid combat, but for its age, it still looks good and has impressive create-a-character tools and decent story modes on PlayStation 2, which were quite a rarity in that generation.

During Sony’s State of Play event last month, it was announced that Soulcalibur III is headed to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 via the PS Plus Classics library.
Soulcalibur III would also be joined by other PlayStation classics, Tekken 3 and Tomb Raider Anniversary.
Unfortunately, Sony did not announce any dates as to when Soulcalibur III, Tekken 3 and Tomb Raider Anniversary would be coming to PlayStation Plus, other than that they would arrive “later this year.”
This might not be the Soulcalibur news that most fans would have hoped for, but it’s certainly better than nothing. Well, only if you play on PlayStation, that is.

It’s worth mentioning that the PlayStation Plus Classics library is exclusive to the Premium tier. As always, once we learn when all three games are set to drop on PS Plus, we’ll let you know.
