PC users hoping for more PlayStation 5 ports will be left sorely disappointed to hear Sony has no interest in supporting other platforms from now on.
The gaming sphere has become more interconnected over the past few years with the emergence of crossplay and the sharing of first-party games.
Xbox has been more than keen to have its extensive library of exclusives available on other platforms, with the perfect example being Halo: Campaign Evolved launching on the PlayStation 5 later this year. That said, it sounds like Xbox is looking to backtrack on that decision given its new identity.
Speaking of backtracking, PlayStation is the next company to drop PC from its future first-party plans.

In a new report from Bloomberg, it was said that PlayStation no longer plans to bring its games to PC in the future. That’s especially bad news for Bloodborne fans, you’re obviously not getting that re-release, no matter how successful Jacksepticeye’s film is.
This means games like Ghost of Yōtei, amongst others, will not be receiving a PC port later down the line, which is sure to disappoint quite a few gamers.
Take this news with a pinch of salt, however, as Sony is yet to confirm or deny the claims.

This news also comes shortly after PlayStation announced a price-hike for PlayStation Plus Essential. It’s targeted at new subscribers only but is a kick in the teeth for those lobbying to make access to online multiplayer free rather than something you have to pay for.
When looking at all of the reports, the timing couldn’t be more convenient. Later this year, Valve plans to launch the Steam Machine worldwide, which aims to bridge the gap between console owners who want to give PC gaming a go.
Despite Xbox being more than accommodating of PC players, the Steam Machine is looking more and more like a cost-effective alternative to Project Helix.
Perhaps PlayStation sees Valve’s new console as a threat, and unless you care massively about performance and graphical fidelity, why wouldn’t you just play the latest AAA Xbox and PlayStation releases on PC via the Steam Machine? In theory, you’re getting the best of both worlds and then get the added benefit of PC-exclusive and mods for all titles.
Again, take it with a pinch of salt as that’s all speculation on my part, but the timing really couldn’t be any better.
So for the foreseeable future, don’t expect any new PlayStation games to appear on PC, as it’s clear Sony would rather focus on its own hardware than anyone else’s.
