For quite a while now, rumours have been circulating the internet that The Last of Us Part II will be getting a remaster for PlayStation 5.

Back in October this year, a The Last of Us Part II remaster appeared on a developer's LinkedIn profile, all but confirming its existence without Sony or Naughty Dog outright announcing the news. Obviously, gossip should still be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise, but I am often a believer in there being no smoke without fire.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that the developers of Naughty Dog are no strangers to releasing igames multiple times. For example, in one form or another, The Last of Us Part I has been released on PC, PS3, PS4 and PS5. Even its other popular series, Uncharted has seen multiple releases with the latest being Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PC and PlayStation 5.

However, as reported by VGC, the strongest indication that a remaster of The Last of Us Part II is on the way has surfaced this week after it appeared on PlayStation’s database. The news was spotted by the Twitter account PlayStation Game Size, which has a knack of leaking releases and game updates before being set free into the wild. Unlike the PS4 version of The Last of Us Part II which received a free PS5 update which included haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support, as well as a 60 frames per second framerate, this official remaster will apparently be native to PS5.

It’s unclear what exactly this native remaster of The Last of Us Part II will bring to the table, but it might be safe to assume that it will have enhanced UHD support, improved haptic feedback and adaptive triggers as well as other quality-of-life improvements.

Furthermore, whether The Last of Us Part II remaster will have a discount for owners of the PS4 version as we’ve previously seen with Ghost of Tsushima: Directors Cut remains to be seen, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Hopefully, it might also mean that the sequel will be ported to PC, as long as it's released in a better launch state than The Last of Us Part I.

As always, we’ll keep you posted if we hear of any further developments of The Last of Us Part II arriving on PlayStation 5.
