God of War fans are all for a Mayan setting, and to be honest, so are we.
The year 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of Santa Monica Studio’s God of War series, making its debut on the PlayStation 2 in 2005. Speaking of its anniversary, Sony recently unveiled a new limited DualSense controller, very befitting for the Ghost of Sparta.
Ever since fans were introduced to the angry and vengeful ways of Kratos, on a hellbent mission to brutally eliminate the gods of Olympus, they’ve been craving new God of War adventures with each PlayStation generation.
The most recent entry in the series is God of War Ragnarök in 2022, which is the sequel to the soft 2018 reboot that kicked off what fans hope to be a Norse trilogy. At the time of writing, a third game starring Kratos and his son Atreus, is yet to be announced.

However, I have no concerns about the third Norse God of War game arriving; I believe it’s just a matter of patience. Ironically, something that Kratos doesn't have much of, but I digress.
Assuming we do get a third Norse God of War game, what’s next for Kratos afterwards? Will he go to Africa, Asia or perhaps even Europe? We might even get the rumoured remake/remaster next. Only time will tell.
That being said, there is another possible destination for the would-be globetrotting Kratos, and that’s Central America. More specifically, Mexico is a possible destination, or at least, that’s what some fans hope.
“Imagine a God of War game set in Mayan Mythology,” said Redditor Clear-Leave-8034, kicking off a discussion on the thread.

“I’ve been saying this. I think it’d be great if Atreus, or even Kratos and Fraya, get lost and land in Mesoamerica or Northeastern America/Canada,” replied another Reddit user.
“This single image has gotten me interested in Mayan mythology. Good job on the choice of image,” declared No_Ganache_1753.
“Way cooler than Egyptian,” agreed a Reddit user. The only hang-up would be a huge amount of Mayan mythology lost to history. They would have to make most of it up, which might offend a lot of people.”
Many others in the thread also stated that they’d love Kratos to explore Celtic mythology (no, not the Scottish football team), which could be an interesting concept, to say the least.

Hopefully, the folks at Sony PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio won't keep us waiting too long by revealing what’s next for Kratos and company. We’ll keep you posted when we learn more.
