God Of War fans torn as Kratos officially heads back to Norse mythology

Again? Really?

We just got a bunch of new details regarding the next official God of War project, and fans are, naturally, upset about that.

It’s been a while since we got any official updates about the upcoming God of War series, but that drought finally broke yesterday following an interview with executive producer Ronald D. Moore.

As revealed during the interview by IGN’s Wesley Yin-Poole and Scott Collura, Amazon's upcoming God of War TV show will feature Kratos and Atreus’ journey through the Norse saga of games, starting with 2018’s God of War.

“The tone of the show is trying to emulate the tone of the game, which is there's this epic journey, this heartfelt story of these two men setting out on this thing to honor the memory of his wife, Atreus’ mother”, Moore revealed.

“So it has this emotional heart, but there's this sense of history of who Kratos is, this mystery about his past, what he represents, the emotions that he's going through.”

So, why are fans upset about this? It’s because (based on the comments over on Discussing Film’s post) the new series will seemingly be skipping directly over Kratos’ journey in the original trilogy of games.

“I get Atreus is newer and popular, but his Greek gods games is way better and more interesting to me”, commented user @Booshbaach.

“GoW 2018 isn't nearly as good without the context of the Greek saga”, replied user @Hooded_Rob1n.

On one hand, I do understand why people are upset. The new God of War games do hit a lot harder when you have the context of the Greek trilogy of games behind them.

However, part of me wonders if those games might actually be impossible to adapt in live action.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s a story there, but they are a lot more action-heavy than the new games (which is really saying something). I think a live-action adaptation of the original three games might end up just disappointing fans as a result.

Oh well, hopefully Amazon’s series will have some flashbacks?
