God Of War fans roast Kratos' 'real name', and we get it

Yeah, I'm not calling him this

Have you ever wondered what God of War’s protagonist’s real name is? Oh, you haven’t? Because we already know that it’s Kratos?

You poor, sweet summer child. You fool. You big dummy. That’s not his real, canon name. Pff, can you even call yourself a real God of War fan?

I suppose only us real GoW-heads know that he’s actually called John. If you didn’t, I hope you don’t ever have the gall to call yourself a fan of the franchise ever again, you tourist.

Ok fine, jokes aside, this is actually sort of real. No, I’m not joking.

That’s because, roughly three years ago, the official PlayStation UK Twitter account decided to tell us Kratos’ full name.

“John Kratos is my head canon now,” stated PlayStation UK.

“Also the World Serpent is Colin. Hope that's OK.”

Alright, what’s going on here and why have they done this?

It’s a little hard to tell, as the original Tweet that it’s in reference to has been deleted, but this was in reply to a post from The Guardian’s Keza MacDonald.

In her original post, MacDonald revealed that someone from a PR company had emailed them and incorrectly referred to Kratos as “John Kratos” in the process. The rest is history.

So what do the folks over on the r/GodofWar subreddit think of all this? They either think it’s stupid, or they think it’s the funniest thing in the world.

“He's Greek, His name was probably Yannies Thanopalopeas,” commented user AMDDesign.

“I thought it was Kratos McKratosface,” replied user Expensive-Wealth6798.

Obviously this isn’t actually, genuinely canon, so don’t take it all too seriously.

Although, saying that, this is the only official source on the matter… that doesn’t make it true but, it also makes it a little hard to refute.

Either way, the damage is done at this point.
