Santa Monica Studio is cooking something up, and it smells a lot like God of War 6.
It’s autumn, at least here in the Northern Hemisphere, and it’s most definitely put me in the mood for some more God of War.
Why? Well, we’re approaching God of War Ragnarök’s third anniversary.
I remember so vividly how much fun I had playing it, snuggled up as the cool, dark nights drew in.

Every year since, I just yearn for a slice of that magic; it’s such a treat to return to a familiar world, especially during the time of year where so many of us spend more time at home.
It’s the best kind of escapism.
While it doesn’t look like Kratos will grant us with his presence this year, something is on the horizon.
Earlier this year, Santa Monica Studio posted two job listings, as reported by The Game Post; one was for a quest designer, the other for a senior technical narrative designer.

Both job descriptions referred to “a new unannounced title”, later adding that “knowledge of competitive products as well as a personal understanding of God of War games” would be beneficial.
That’s all but outright confirmation that the studio is working on a new God of War entry.
Should we be surprised? Absolutely not.
If you’ve got one of the biggest gaming franchises on the planet, you’re not just going to abandon it.

It’s been three years since Ragnarök landed so it’s perhaps obvious that Santa Monica is deep into development on something.
God of War is most definitely the most logical answer.
This still leaves a ton of questions. Perhaps the one fans most want answered concerns what mythology Kratos will take on next.
Rumours claim we could see him return to Greece, but Egypt is a fan-favourite pick if we’re to venture off somewhere new.

I suppose the other query concerns when we could possibly see this game land.
There were six years separating God of War and God of War Ragnarök, so that could mean God of War 6 may not arrive until 2028.
That’s if it’s Santa Monica’s sole focus; we can’t ignore those whispers of a spin-off metroidvania entry or a remastering of the original trilogy.
That could push the release of a new game even further away.

Best case scenario, I’d say we’re a minimum of 18 months to two years away from a reveal if we’re to go off this timeline, so some patience is going to be required.
