The parameters of success are so hazy these days. You need look no further than Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush.

This stellar release scooped up a ton of awards whilst simultaneously proving to be a hit with players. Yet here we are with Microsoft having since announced the closure of the studio.

It simply doesn’t make sense.

Days Gone is a similarly strange example. Whilst Bend Studio is still very much alive and well, Sony pulled the plug on a potential sequel to the game despite Days Gone matching the sales of Ghost of Tsushima.

Yes, Ghost of Tsushima was a much stronger game but Days Gone performed well enough commercially. Is that no longer enough to secure a game’s future?

Think of the jump in quality from Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune to Among Thieves, or from Mass Effect to Mass Effect 2.

Days Gone had plenty of creases to iron out, there’s no hiding that, but a Metacritic score of 71 is very respectable.

It’s reflective of a good game with still a good chunk of room for improvement.

Unfortunately, we’ll never see what Days Gone could’ve gone on to become which is a great shame because its horde mechanic was incredibly unique.

While I can’t magic up a sequel to ease the woes of fans, I would like to highlight a stellar fan project that allows you to overhaul the game’s graphics if you’re playing on PC.

Take a look at Days Gone in action below.

Days Gone never received an official new-gen remaster but PC players can benefit from boosted graphics with additional ray-tracing thanks to this stellar project from YouTube wizard Digital Dreams.

The end result is sharper, more detailed, and just all the more immersive because of it. In fact, it’s making me want to give this title another whirl.

You can take a look at the remaster mod project in action below.

To join in on the fun, simply head to the video’s description where you can find Digital Dreams’ reshade preset. Of course, it goes without saying, you’ll need to be running the game on PC.

“Almost RDR2 level in a few scenes,” wrote one viewer. You can’t get higher praise than that.
