Despite a rocky launch, Days Gone has garnered somewhat of a cult following with many fans eager for a sequel that may never happen but hopefully, this new-gen mod will please some of those disgruntled gamers.

Developed by Bend Studio, Days Gone was released as a PlayStation 4 console exclusive in 2019 before benefiting from an enhanced PC port in 2021 boasting improved visuals, performance and a whole host of snazzy new features.

When Days Gone was initially launched for the PlayStation 4, it suffered bugs and performance issues, which were eventually fixed by Bend Studio. Yet, when the free new-gen update arrived for PlayStation 5, Days Gone was performing better than ever, most likely how the developers had intended.

“Ride into a desperate dog-eat-dog world ravaged by a deadly pandemic as drifter and bounty hunter, Deacon St. John,” reads the synopsis of Days Gone. “Risk the threats of the broken road on the back of your trusty drifter bike as you face swarms of mindless feral Freakers – and equally terrifying humans.”

In 2021, fans rallied behind a petition for Sony to greenlight Days Gone 2, which at the time of writing, has over 200,000 signatures. Sadly, however, despite a trilogy being seemingly proposed internally, a Days Gone developer has stated that a sequel will never happen.

When Days Gone arrived on PC, other than being a better version of the game in terms of visuals and performance over its PlayStation counterpart, gamers could also take advantage of the ever-vibrant modding community such as the ‘4K Decon’ mod available to download for free via Nexusmods.

Created by Uhzu, this mod does exactly what it says on the tin and gives the protagonist of the game a glorious 4K makeover. “This mod brings Deacon to his highest quality,” reads its brief description.

Unfortunately, as with the nature of most mods, ‘4K Decon’ is only available for the PC version of the game. Days Gone is out now on PC and PlayStation.
