Days Gone fans torn over long-awaited new release

You can't please everyone

Days Gone Remastered is set to arrive very soon, on 25 April to be exact.

Fair to say, it’s a rather unexpected remaster.

Days Gone is a fairly decent game, but it’s also one that seemingly doesn’t have much of a future.

Sony turned down the offer of a sequel shortly following the game’s mixed release which makes you wonder why a remaster has suddenly surfaced six years on.

Well, it’s no secret that remasters and remakes are fairly popular these days.

Why? It’s a quick and reliable way that studios can make money.

Bend Studio hasn’t actually put out anything since 2018’s Days Gone, with many years apparently wasted on a now cancelled live-service project.

Whatever the studio is working on now, Days Gone Remastered has probably been launched to help fund it.

You can take a look at Days Gone Remastered in action below.

Alongside remastering the graphics, Days Gone Remastered will also introduce a new Horde Assault mode, a permadeath mode, a speedrun mode, and additional game trophies.

That’s plenty to keep returning players entertained, if you ask me, but it seems not all fans are satisfied.

“Missed opportunity to add multiplayer to the horde modes, honestly,” commented Reddit user Fearless_Cheek_8940.

“I love this game but I honestly do not care about the horde mode. I am most excited to see what DualSense implementations there are and to replay the game again,” added hobo_lad.

I’d keep an open mind; I was disappointed that The Last of Us Part II Remastered added a roguelike mode instead of DLC but could I put it down following launch? No I could not.

Sometimes these things surprise you.

It’s not all doom and gloom. “Ok wow, they've sold me on the $10 upgrade,” said pjatl-natd.

“I was wondering how they were going to tackle permadeath in this game. Especially since this is an open world game, so he confirmed it's save file or per act,” wrote Perforo_RS.

“In the case of The Last of Us, I kinda get that you would add a permadeath mode. The story is presented to you in a linear fashion. But Days Gone adds an open world into the mix. So there's a lot of potential to die on your way to the next mission or whilst exploring a side mission. Excited to see what kinda crazy challenges people will set for themselves,” they continued.

Exactly. It’ll be interesting to see if Days Gone Remastered has the power to turn the franchise’s fortunes around.
