Days Gone returns in free PlayStation download

Personalise your console

I had honestly accepted that this day would never arrive.

Sony has finally introduced themed dynamic backgrounds for the PlayStation 5.

This addition isn’t quite as expansive as the PlayStation 4 themes of yesteryear, but it’s a long-awaited step in the right direction.

The new feature is being silently rolled out, so don’t panic if your console hasn’t yet updated.

Sony hasn’t made its strategy clear which, I must say, is a bit odd, but you should receive the option to access animated backgrounds before long.

When you do, there’ll be a wide variety for you to select from and download, with many of the backgrounds themed around some of PlayStation’s biggest franchises.

That includes Days Gone, which is set to make its comeback this month when Days Gone Remastered drops on 25 April.

You can view the project’s trailer below.

If you head on over to your settings, you should find the available selection of backgrounds.

It’s believed that most people should already have access to an Astro Bot option.

Many of the other franchise-related backgrounds though are seemingly a part of this aforementioned phased rollout so if you don’t see them yet, you likely will soon.

The Days Gone background features the remastered edition’s new key art.

There are also backgrounds featuring Demon Souls, Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon: Call of the Mountain, Horizon Forbidden West, LEGO Horizon Adventures, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Rise of the Ronin, and Stellar Blade, as per a screenshot shared by Genki_JPN and chi_m02 over on Twitter.

I must admit, I’m pretty surprised not to see a The Last of Us option there.

It’s surely one of Sony’s biggest IPs?

Of course, it’s very likely that the selection will be expanded even further over time.

These backgrounds only affect your homescreen, so the customisation doesn’t go beyond that just yet.

But I think that’s enough that many of us are going to welcome this update with open arms.
