Bloodborne is getting a big-screen film adaptation as confirmed by Sony, and the details sound like it’ll be one for the ages.
CinemaCon is officially upon us which means updates on some of the hottest films coming to cinemas across the world, as well as some surprise new announcements.
One of the most surprising so far though is Bloodborne, the critically-acclaimed PlayStation-exclusive soulsborne, is getting the big screen treatment.
Sony confirmed the film will be both r-rated and animated rather than live-action, both of which are positive signs for the film’s success.

The most surprising announcement though came from the film’s producer, who is none other than YouTuber Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin.
McLoughlin has been an avid YouTube content creator for years now with plenty of horror game playthroughs under his belt, including Bloodborne.
In a post on Reddit the creator confirmed their position as producer saying: "I am going to do everything in my power to make this the BEST Bloodborne adaptation possible. Not only is it my favourite game ever made but I know how truly passionate the fans of this game are."
Details on the plot haven’t been shared at the time of writing, but given how nonsensical Bloodborne’s story is it’s going to be quite a challenge.
A lot of what makes Bloodborne intriguing is the mystery of it all. It delves deep into the supernatural and has players questioning if what they’re seeing is real or illusionary.
Some creative liberties are likely to be taken to make the film make sense to general audiences, but it’s bound to be a wild ride either way.
We’re officially in a golden era for video game film adaptations. Bloodborne getting the big screen treatment is exciting but it joins so many other games getting a similar service.
There are the big wins like The Super Mario Bros movies and the Sonic The Hedgehog trilogy, and then there are delightful indie flicks like Markiplier’s Iron Lung that pleasantly surprise audiences with their quality.
Bloodborne isn’t even the only video game Sony has a hand in adapting either as The Legend of Zelda live-action film will also be produced by Sony Pictures. The company also revealed at CinemaCon that filming has officially wrapped, so we can expect a trailer sooner or later.
The big question now though is will this new film finally push Sony Interactive Entertainment to greenlight a Bloodborne remaster if it hasn’t already?
