We may have a closer idea of which The Legend of Zelda games are being adapted for the upcoming movie, following new footage leaked from the set.

In case you missed the news, set footage from Nintendo’s live-action The Legend of Zelda movie has been leaked, which is currently filming in New Zealand.

The clips show actors Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason in costume as Link and Princess Zelda respectively, along with who appears to be Severance actress Dichen Lachman.

For now, these clips are the best look we have at what Link and Zelda will look like in the movie. And what’s more, there are a few details here which will help us to narrow down which games are being adapted for the screen.

To start with, the clips of Bragason as Zelda clearly show her wearing her blues from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Meanwhile, the clip of Ainsworth as Link shows him wearing the iconic green tunic seen in so many past The Legend of Zelda games.

Nintendo

This specific look resembles his appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess more than the others though.

So, if we had to guess, we’d imagine that Nintendo has looked at Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild as the main sources of inspiration for designing Link and Zelda.

Impa's appearance could hint at something else

In addition to that, fans have theorised that Lachman is playing Impa, a character that has acted as an ally to Link and Zelda many times over the years.

Impa is usually portrayed as either an elderly woman, or as around the same age as the protagonists. However, considering Lachman is 43 years old, the film may portray her as more of an older mentor figure for Zelda.

The presence of Impa makes this theory a little less likely, as Impa does not appear in Twilight Princess, nor does she appear as her younger self in Breath of the Wild.

It’s possible this version of Impa is meant to resemble the younger incarnation of Impa that appears in Skyward Sword.

Altogether, it looks like Nintendo might be looking at a wide range of games in The Legend of Zelda series when it comes to adapting it for the big screen.

But if we had to guess based on this footage, we’ll go with Breath of the Wild, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword as being big sources of inspiration.

That doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll lift stories and characters directly from those games though, as the plot could be something more original.
