
PlayStation Plus subscribers will soon be able to claim one of the best horror games of 2022 at no extra cost, and it shouldn't be skipped.
This week, Sony announced the latest batch of free games coming to PlayStation Plus Essential, and it includes some fantastic titles. It's unlikely to cool down any of the continued backlash towards Sony for ditching physical media, but surely it can’t make it any worse, right?
The PlayStation Plus Essential offerings can often be somewhat of a mixed bag, but for August 2026, it looks like one of the best months for subscribers in a while, with two indie offerings and a major AAA zombie slayer.
As for the game that is the topic of discussion in this article, it’s the critically acclaimed indie horror, Signalis, developed by rose-engine and published by Balor Games.

Those who are familiar with Signalis will be well aware of how fantastic this game is, but being the common nature of indie titles, there’s a good chance it's flown under many gamers' radars, even for those who love the survival horror genre.
Signalis is a sci-fi horror praised for its haunting atmosphere, its subtle storytelling, player vulnerability, puzzles, scarce resources, backtracking, audio design and more. Basically, Signalis has all the ingredients of classic horror titles that made millions of fans all over the world fall in love with the genre.

What’s the story of Signalis, and how is it received?

On the aggregate website Metacritic, Signalis has scored a very respectable 81 from critics and 8.4 from users. On Steam, it’s rated as “Overwhelmingly Positive” from nearly 21,000 user reviews.

When is Signalis coming to PlayStation Plus?
You won’t have to wait long, because along with Dying Light 2 and the new 2026 title, Big Walk, Signalis will be available in all tiers of PS Plus this coming Tuesday, on August 4. Signalis is also available on PC, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
