The Last Of Us Part 1 free update makes some much-needed fixes

Naughty Dog has released another patch update for The Last Of Us Part 1 bringing some new much-needed fixes.

It’s no secret that the PC version of The Last of Us Part I was released in a dire state. Then again, seeing as it was made in partnership with Iron Galaxy who developed the equally awful Batman: Arkham Knight PC port, maybe we should’ve seen this one coming.

It’s certainly not what you expect of a PlayStation first-party release. Thankfully, the game is in a much better place now. Upon release, many players were demanding refunds - and understandably so. In the months since though, Naughty Dog have rolled out a number of patches for The Last of Us Part I rectifying the vast majority of the port’s most glaring issues. The release still isn’t in a perfect state, but thanks to a new free patch that dropped yesterday, it’s edging closer and closer to being the game it should’ve been back on 28 March when it dropped into the hands of fans.

PlayStation 5 exclusive Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart lands on PC on 26 July.

Naughty Dog took to Twitter to deliver the latest patch notes. Patch 1.1.1 is live now and is said to address “several crashes, visual fixes, and more.” Let’s dive into those patch notes. The update has fixed crashes that occurred when restarting a Permadeath Speedrun after dying or when rapidly switching through available skins. It also addresses issues regarding reflections not appearing in vehicles' rear-view mirrors when Real-Time Reflections are disabled, missing rock and rock wall textures in several areas, and instances where players could see outside the game world in some locations.

Additionally, the patch has corrected several in-game, menu, and text-to-speech translation errors, plus fixed an issue with the bow's UI icon overlapping with arrow counts when a melee weapon is also equipped. The ‘Loading %’ user interface (UI) progress is tracked more evenly and several issues have been rectified in Photo Mode.

A cutscene crash has been fixed during the Tommy’s Dam section, and the visual appearance of the fog during the University chapter has also been improved. In Left Behind, a crash has been fixed that was triggered by Ellie wearing the Seattle Wear skin. The health bar will also no longer become stuck on the screen during the Mallrats chapter. You can check out the full patch notes on Naughty Dog’s blog.
