The Last of Us has dominated this year’s pop culture discourse. HBO’s TV adaptation kept us entertained throughout the first three months of the year, before the PC release of The Last of Us Part I caused an unexpected stir more recently.

In case you missed it, The Last of Us Part I’s PC port was released in an abysmal state. It quickly became Naughty Dog’s worst-reviewed game ever, and many players ended up receiving full refunds. The good news is that Naughty Dog have been pretty quick to rectify most of the major issues surrounding the game. While there are still creases to iron out, Part I is far more playable than it was at launch. In fact, one PC player just finished experiencing the story for the first time, deeming it to be the ‘best game ever’.

Take a look at the port in action below.

Reddit user Seiozmak wrote, “As a PC only player, I finally got to finish The Last of Us Part I and I think it might be the best game I’ve ever played. [...] Wow, what a journey. I knew that it was a great game because a few of my friends recommended it over the years, but it's safe to say it exceeded all my expectations. Generally I don't even like zombie games or movies, but this game is so much more than that.” They continued, “I am overwhelmed with all the emotions. I played a lot of games over the last several years, but I feel like The Last of Us is the one that is closest to perfection.”

“The story is absolutely incredible and now I feel empty and scared that I will never get to experience something like this again. I will admit that the port to PC is not great and I had some bugs and problems, but fortunately nothing gamebreaking and I managed to squeeze stable 40fps from my PC, but it didn't stop me from appreciating the game itself.” Fellow fans were happy for the user. One wrote, “Welcome to the club”.

So, what’s next on the horizon for the franchise? This June, The Last of Us will celebrate its 10 year anniversary and Naughty Dog has teased that that will entail several surprises, although we’re not sure what those are. A full multiplayer reveal, season two show casting news, and a director’s cut / new-gen version of Part II are all possibilities. Either way, I can’t wait.
