Stardew Valley is a game that players can get lost in for hours on end, but with this new game mode, you’d probably be advised to take a break every now and then…
Games with beautiful, hand-made pixel-art graphics always go down a treat with most gamers and Stardew Valley’s artwork is no exception.
It’s colourful, memorable and infinitely customisable. Not only can you alter how your farm looks in-game, but mechanically, it’s very easy to mod. The game’s creator Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone even encourages players to make their own fun with the game.
Streamer GingasVR clearly had a lot of fun working on a new game mode for Stardew Valley, which takes you closer to its gorgeous artwork than any modification has before.
GingasVR recently shared their own creation online via some YouTube shorts. The world of Stardew Valley and the world of VR collide to create a disorientating mess, but one with a lot of charm. That’s not us being overly critical over the mode by the way. After all, it’s a work-in-progress.

The clip of the VR mod in action is pretty reminiscent of Minecraft VR mods that have been released in the past. You can freely swing around your selected tool and switch between them with the toolbar, which is conveniently attached to your wrist.
GingasVR could walk around town and even head inside some of the various buildings before venturing down to the caves.
It’s quite jarring to see Stardew Valley in this style at first, but it does start to grow on you after a while. With better render distances, this could easily become a fully-fledged mod that’d be perfect for a new playthrough. You’d just have to make sure you afford yourself a few breaks as VR can become incredibly nauseating after a while.
Coincidentally, this isn’t the only 3D iteration of Stardew Valley we’ve seen this week, as another is currently in development by kittycatcasey.

Some video footage of this 3D mod in action was also shared online. The Third Dimension mod is a complete overhaul of Stardew Valley’s engine, which allows for the game’s assets to be presented in 3D rather than the top-down 2D format we’ve come to know and love..

For any sceptics out there, kittycatcasey has confirmed that no AI is being used during development, which is good to hear.
While you can play this version on your PC desktop, it’ll also support VR if you connect a headset, so you’ve got options for how you’d like to play it.
Both of the above projects are impressive displays of technical prowess, and a testament to the never-ending creativity of Stardew Valley players.
There are loads of cool mods to download that’ll enhance your gameplay, and you can check out a few of our recommendations for your next playthrough.
