Stardew Valley is a titan within the cosy gaming genre, allowing us to partake in various relaxing activities including the likes of farming, decorating, fishing, and gardening.

There are NPCs players can befriend for company, but so too does Stardew Valley allow for players to adopt four-legged friends.

Both cats and dogs are present within Stardew Valley although they don’t exactly do very much beyond lounging around and looking cute, until now.

‘Pet Quests’ is a brilliant new mod from NexusMods user xzcute that, perhaps unsurprisingly, introduces a bunch of new quests involving your feline and canine companions.

Put Your Pets To Work As They Fetch You Fresh Loot

Available to download on PC, ‘Pet Quests’ allows you to turn cats and dogs into purveyors of loot.

“Your farm pets have been decorative long enough,” the description begins.

“Pet Quests gives cats and dogs a job: send them out each morning on a quest, and when they return, they bring loot. Sometimes good loot. Sometimes nothing. That's the deal.”

Players are able to select a quest by talking to their pets in the morning with this determining the type of loot they’ll return with.

The pet will then disappear for several in-game hours before arriving home with their bounty - or a distinct lack of on some occasions.

For cats, quests include hunting, foraging, fishing, mining, and artifact hunting.

As the mod’s creator so perfectly puts it, “They would've done all of this anyway. Now you at least get something out of it.”

Dogs will go fishing, digging, and treasure hunting or on fetch missions and guard duty.

“They are trying very hard. Please acknowledge this,” xzcute comically notes.

“Results come in at Normal, Silver, Gold, or Iridium quality, with failure as a real possibility,” plus the trust you have with your pet factors into the quality of the loot.

The pets that you have a better bond with will naturally return with a higher quality of goods than those that you ignore.

It’s a charming little mod that should add a fun new quirk to Stardew Valley as we all wait for the release of the upcoming Update 1.7 which remains in development.

It’s already proving popular with players.

“Your mod is very interesting,” remarked one happy customer, while another noted, “That’s a great idea.”

As long as you have a copy of Stardew Valley on PC, ‘Pet Quests’ is completely free and available to enjoy now.
