Stardew Valley Realism is Improved, Welcomed Community Content

A more realistic sunset

A new Stardew Valley mod has improved the realism of the game’s day-to-night system, giving the passage of time a bit more of a natural transition at sunset.

Stardew Valley is one of the best farming and life simulation games of all time, and part of that is due to the number of updates it has received over the years.

Even with how much attention its sole developer Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone has given Stardew Valley since its initial release in 2016, there are still loads of features and ideas that were either left on the cutting room floor, or simply never implemented.

One such feature that fans feel could be improved is the transition between day and night, which occurs rather spontaneously in the base version of the game.

See, when it hits 6:00PM in Stardew Valley, the sun sets rather immediately. No matter whether it’s the dead of winter or the middle of the summer, it’ll set at the exact same time each day.

Dynamic Dusk Makes Big Improvements To Stardew Valley's Sunsets

That’s where the power of mods come in, with one Stardew Valley mod in particular aiming to improve the game’s transition between day and night for a more realistic portrayal of time.

Dynamic Dusk by modders HanzCagarion and ZeroXPatch detaches the in-game sunset from the static 6:00PM clock.

ZeroXPatch says the transition to night can now happen “as early as 4:00PM or as late as 8:00PM”.

According to the mod description, summer sunsets randomise between 6:00PM and 8:30PM, while winter sunsets are kept between 3:30PM and 5:00PM.

If you’d prefer a more unpredictable experience, you can also let it randomise the time daily, or configure it manually to simulate realistic seasonal daylight cycles.

In addition to this, it also features a more gradual fading of the daylight, where instead of it becoming dark within a short period of time, it may take hours for the game to become pitch black.

So, if the sun starts to set at 4.30PM, the light will gradually fade through, becoming pitch black two hours later as opposed to almost immediately. However, if you’d prefer to change it yourself, you can also configure the time that sunset occurs to your liking.

If you’re interested in checking out Dynamic Dusk, you can download the mod now from the Stardew Valley page on Nexus Mods. It goes without saying that you'll need to be playing the game on PC.
